On August 14, 2003, 10 years ago this Wednesday, the power went out in eight U.S. states and the Canadian province of Ontario. Fifty-five million people were affected, from Ann Arbor to New Haven, Baltimore to the Hudson Bay. At the time, it was the second-largest blackout in history.
