After abandoning CFCs, use of carbon dioxide (CO2, R744) has become widespread as a refrigerant. Number of evaporators used CO2 has increased in commercial and industrial applications such as mobile car air conditioners, vending machines, supermarkets, cold rooms, food production and process industry.
