1. World Air Conditioner Market Size in 2017
The year 2017 was a year of great achievement thanks to double-digit growth in China, the largest air conditioner market in the world. The global air conditioner market saw 9.3% year-on-year growth, increasing to 129 million units.

2. The United States
In the United States, sales of ductless air conditioners such as mini-splits and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems are gradually increasing. Mini-splits recorded 15.0% growth in sales in 2017. In total, the U.S. air conditioner market in 2017 showed 4.8% growth, increasing to 16.4 million units.

3. China
China’s production and sales of air conditioners set new records in 2017. Domestic sales grew explosively to 61 million units, showing year-on-year growth of 30.2%. The export volume, including exports of foreign brands produced in China, reached 110 million units, growing 23% year-on-year.

4. Southeast Asia
In 2017, the rainy season came earlier than usual in Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore, resulting in a shorter hot summer. Consequently, the air conditioner market of the whole region decreased by 9.2% to 7.9 million units in 2017. Only the Philippines and Myanmar showed growth trends.

5. India
The Indian market experienced a hot summer and increased by 10.5% to 5.6 million units, driven by replacement demand for higher efficiency models.

6. Europe
In Europe, the RAC market got off to a slower start than in 2016 when it was intensely hot. Although markets such as Italy, Germany, and France encountered a decrease in RAC demand during the first half of 2017 compared with 2016. European AC market recovered to show a 3.6% increase with 6.4 million units in 2017.

7. Middle East
The Middle Eastern market has not yet extricated itself from stagnant growth, with the economy hurt by falling oil prices and political instability. The Middle Eastern air conditioner market also showed a declining trend in 2017 compared with 2016, recording a 14.5% decrease to about 4.7 million units.

8. Latin America
The Latin American economy has bottomed out and is recovering. Its air conditioner demand increased by 5.7% in 2017. Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico were the top three markets in the region, with a combined market scale of 5.2 million units in 2017.
