1. Qingdao Hisense Hitachi Kicks off Sales of YORK-brand VRFs in China
Johnson Controls (JCI) and Qingdao Hisense Hitachi Air Conditioning Systems (Qingdao Hisense Hitachi) jointly released an announcement on February 1 indicating that the two parties had finished a business transition of YORK VRFs in China, which would become the business of Qingdao Hisense Hitachi.  Authorized by JCI, Qingdao Johnson Controls Air-Conditioning was established to deal with the YORK VRF business in China. Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning will offer strong support for YORK VRF business growth in the areas of technology and product development.

2. AHRI Opens First Office Outside North America
On April 13, 2018, the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) opened its first office outside North America. Its new office is located in the General Machinery Product Inspection Institute (GMPI) in Hefei, in the southern part of China. China is one of the largest air conditioner markets in the world. In particular, the southern part of China is very important because many manufacturers not only from China but also from foreign countries and regions such as the United States, Europe, Japan, and South Korea, are based there.  AHRI’s new office in Hafei will provide major benefits.

3. Nidec to Acquire Brazilian Reciprocating Compressor Giant Embraco
In 2017, Nidec, a Japanese motor specialist, acquired Germany-based reciprocating compressor manufacturer Secop. Now, Nidec is poised to acquire Brazil-based Embraco, which has top global sales of its own brand reciprocating compressors. Utilizing its innovative motor technology and rich financial power, Nidec intends to bring a new perspective to the global compressor industry. Monitoring the future competitive landscape of the global reciprocating compressor sector is going to be interesting.

4. Indian AC Industry Expects High Growth in 2018
Air conditioner manufacturers Voltas, Daikin, Panasonic, Samsung, Godrej, Haier, and others expect a high double-digit growth in sales this year due to the weather department’s forecast of higher summer temperatures, increase in disposable incomes, and better power availability.

5. Mitsubishi Electric Strengthening Its Presence in Europe with Specializing Brand Strategy
In February 2018, Mitsubishi Electric Hydronics & IT Cooling Systems (MEHITS) announced its brand strategy of Climaveneta and RC. Climaveneta is specialized brand for comfort and process applications and RC is specialized brand for information technology (IT) cooling. During Mostra Convegno Expocomfort (MCE) 2018 held in March, JARN interviewed Carlo Grossi, CEO and general manager of MEHITS, Hidekazu Tani, vice president Technology and deputy chief operating officer of MEHITS, and Marcello Malavasi, executive director of Mitsubishi Electric Italian Branch.
