Europe has experienced unusually hot weather bringing record-breaking temperatures, crop failure, and wildfires to many parts of the continent in spring and summer this year. The European Drought Observatory (EDO) reports that droughts have above all affected northern and central Europe. According to experts, the jet stream has been weaker than usual due to global warming, allowing hot high-pressure air to stagnate over Europe.
