1. Refrigerant Diversification to Reduce Environmental Impacts — Chillventa 2018 Report
Chillventa was held successfully from October 16 to 18 in Nuremberg, Germany.  These are some examples of the HVAC&R products that adopt various refrigerants displayed at this year’s Chillventa. Europe is the leader in environmental protection and awareness, and there will undoubtedly be more refrigerants launched in the market to meet the needs of various applications in order to comply with the ambitious future HFC reduction target included in the F-gas Regulation.

2. TICA and Smardt Set up JV for Global Oil-free Revolution
Montreal-based Smardt Chiller Group, world leader in oil-free centrifugal cooling, completed its formation of a global joint venture (JV) with TICA Group, China market leader in high-efficiency ventilation solutions, on October 11.  The new JV will continue to develop the Smardt and TICA brands and the existing Smardt factories in Montreal in Canada, Melbourne in Australia, New York in the United States, Guangzhou in China, and Stuttgart in Germany, where immediate expansion is slated. Smardt’s existing global distribution channels will add a new range of TICA air handling units (AHUs) from 2019 onwards.

3. Mitsubishi Electric Sets to Establish Strong Sales Channels in the U.S. Commercial AC Market
JARN interviewed Masafumi Ando, the new senior general manager of Overseas, Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Systems Division, Mitsubishi Electric, who was appointed on April 1, 2018. He talked about the division’s air conditioning business focusing on priority markets, alternative refrigerants, production bases, and sales cooperation with Ingersoll Rand.

4. Heat Pump Sales Flourish in EU
Heat pump sales in the European Union (EU) have increased for four years in a row. The European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) reports that heat pump sales in the EU rose 11.2% in 2017. And several markets in Europe are experiencing further growth in 2018, according to European Heat Pump Market and Statistics Report 2018 recently published by EHPA. If this trend continues, the European heat pump market could double by 2024.

5. Indian Tariff Impacts Chinese Electrical Appliance Brands
The Indian government recently announced enhanced import tariffs for 19 categories of unnecessary commodities including air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines. This has greatly impacted Chinese household electrical appliance manufacturers.
