The 2018 Australian room air conditioner (RAC) market including window and portable types, showed demand reaching 872,000 units, dropping by 7.8% year on year; packaged air conditioners (PACs) amounted to 111,000 units, falling by 6.3% year on year.  Due to some of the strictest energy efficiency regulations in the world, almost all air conditioners in Australia adopt inverter technology. R32 refrigerant with a low global warming potential (GWP) is also becoming the main refrigerant thanks to its environmental performance. Mini-VRFs are significantly increasing their share of the VRF market and are competing with this type of PACs and RACs. Mini-VRFs for residential applications account for more than 40% of all VRFs.
