3. Compressor World Market Situations – Europe Reported by ASERCOM
The European refrigeration compressor market grew in 2018.  In 2018, the heat-pump compressor sector followed the same trend as in 2017 with growth rates of 7–10%, depending on the application. Growth was especially strong for air-to-water (ATW) and inverter types. This trend is expected to continue in 2019, in order to achieve the European Union (EU) targets of energy efficiency, renewable energy utilization, and reduction of CO2 emissions. The latest Energy Performance of Buildings Directive will strengthen this trend further. Within the context of the F-gas regulation, greater uptake of mildly flammable (A2L) refrigerants and propane (R290) refrigerants will occur.
