AHRI Releases March 2019 Shipment Data
Residential Storage Water Heaters
U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for March 2019 decreased 6.6%, to 387,118 units, down from 414,458 units shipped in March 2018. Residential electric storage water heater shipments decreased 8.1% in March 2019 to 358,666 units, down from 390,281 units shipped in March 2018.
Year-to-date U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters decreased 0.2%, to 1,177,772 units, compared to 1,180,448 units shipped during that same period in 2018. Residential electric storage water heater shipments decreased 0.3% year-to-date, to 1,100,587 units, compared to 1,104,062 units shipped during the same period in 2018.
Commercial Storage Water Heaters
Commercial gas storage water heater shipments decreased 1.3% in March 2019, to 9,734 units, down from 9,860 units shipped in March 2018. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 3.5% in March 2019, to 13,904 units, up from 13,431 units shipped in March 2018.
Year-to- date U. S. shipments of commercial gas storage water heaters decreased 6.3%, to 23,779 units, compared with 25,374 units shipped during the same period in 2018. Year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 7.9%, to 37,627 units, up from 34,873 units shipped during the same period in 2018.
Central ACs and ASHPs
U. S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps (ASHPs) totaled 813,605 units in March 2019, down 1.8% from 828,513 units shipped in March 2018. U.S. shipments of central air conditioners decreased 2.4%, to 515,353 units, down from 528,041 units shipped in March 2018. U.S. shipments of ASHPs decreased 0.7%, to 298,252 units, down from 300,472 units shipped in March 2018.
Year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and ASHPs increased 1.9%, to 1,861,009, up from 1,827,120 units shipped during the same period in 2018. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased 1.1%, to 1,114,034 units, up from 1,102,420 units shipped during the same period in 2018. The year-to-date total for ASHPs shipments increased 3.1%, to 746,975, up from 724,700 units shipped during the same period in 2018.
