JRAIA Strongly Advocates the Safe Use of R290 Refrigerant

On May 9, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) approved an increase in the limit of flammable refrigerant charge in commercial built-in refrigeration equipment, from 150g to up to 13 times the lower flammability limit (LFL) or 1, 200g, whichever is smaller. This new limit was included in the revised IEC standard 60335-2-89 on June 20. For the flammable refrigerant propane (R290), the limit on its charge in equipment is equivalent to approximately 500g.
