3.9 LATIN AMERICA

2018 was an election year for a number of Latin American countries, and 10 countries, i.e. Costa Rica, Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba, Paraguay, Venezuela, Barbados, Columbia, Mexico, and Brazil, held elections.  According to the World Bank, Latin America saw weak economic growth of 0.6% in 2018 (the IMF estimate was 1.2%), lower than the 1.3% growth achieved in 2017, and slightly higher than the negative 0.2% growth seen in 2015 and negative 0.8% growth recorded in 2016. The growth rate was lower than the global growth rate of 3.3% in 2018.
