1. Europe Innovates to Stay Afloat – Report on the European AC Market in Q1 2020
In Europe, demand for split-type room air conditioners (RACs) for residential use and packaged air conditioners (PACs) for light commercial use has emerged in mid-latitude countries such as Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Austria in recent years. Even in 2020, in these mid-latitude countries, sales of air conditioners for both residential and commercial applications grew steadily in the period spanning January to February. However, in March, sales of air conditioners in Europe fell sharply due to restricted economic activities in the context of the declaration of emergency situations in each country, along with closed borders.

2. Voltas Invests INR 650 million (US$ 8.8 million) to Set up New Manufacturing Unit in Gujara
Voltas, a leading manufacturer in the Indian heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) market, has set up a new manufacturing facility in Gujarat with an investment of INR 650 million (US$ 8.8 million). The Tata Group company has announced that the new manufacturing unit, which includes research and development (R&D) and testing facilities, will help it meet the growth aspirations of the Indian HVAC market and address the current capacity constraints at its existing plants.

3. Emerson to Meet Market Changes with Higher Efficiency Products
At 2020 AHR Expo held in Orlando, Florida, the United States, at the beginning of February, JARN interviewed Brent Schroeder, group president of Heating and Air Conditioning, Emerson Commercial and Residential Solutions. He talked about Emerson’s displayed products such as Innovation Award finalists, new models with lower-global warming potential (GWP), among others.

4. Sharp Indonesia’s Sales Rise in Q1 of 2020
Despite of a 20% reduction in production capacity due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sharp Indonesia reported sales growth in the first quarter of 2020 in the household products category. According to Andri Adi Utomo, senior general manager of Sharp Indonesia’s National Sales, the positive performance can be seen from several products such as air conditioners, with year-on-year growth of 118.1%, air purifiers with 155%, and washing machines with 98.2%.

5. Midea RAC Online Promotion Seizes RMB 1.19 Billion (about US$ 169 million) Orders
In the context of the postponement of the 127th Canton Fair until June, Midea RAC took the initiative and held its first online Canton Fair and an exclusive ‘24 Hour Rush’ global promotional event. At 24:00 on April 15, the 24 Hour Rush global promotional event successfully concluded, securing a total of RMB 1.19 billion (about US$ 169 million) orders globally within a day. The transaction amount in one day increased by 126% compared with the 72 Hour Rush in 2019. The number of clients placing orders increased by 233% compared with last year. The 2020 Midea Online Canton Fair logged over 1 million page views.
