Awardees Announced in EWB-USA’s Chill Challenge: Multiple technologies make the cut in this low-cost, off-grid cooling challenge

Providing off-grid solutions to the over one billion people living off the grid is the goal of Engineers Without Borders USA’s (EWB-USA) ambitious Chill Challenge. In September of 2019, EWB-USA issued a call for proposals to develop proof of concept prototypes for refrigerators and ice makers. The call received forty-three proposals from 36 teams representing universities, companies, NGO’s, and individuals across the globe. Fourteen were shortlisted for consideration.  Ultimately, seven proposals were selected for grants totaling $300,000 for research and development.
