1. Current Status of Low-GWP Refrigerant Development - EPA Proposes A2L Alternatives
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed adding mildly flammable R32 and five other types of A2L refrigerants, namely R452B, R454A, R454B, R454C, and R457A, to its Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) list for approved use in air conditioning and heat pump systems for new homes and light commercial applications. The SNAP program identifies and evaluates alternatives to ozone depleting substances, and generates lists of acceptable and unacceptable chemical substances for use in various consumer and industrial applications.

2. Howden and City, University of London Embarks on a Collaborative Project
City, University of London’s Centre for Compressor Technology and Howden Compressors will embark on a 5-year collaborative project – Smart Efficient Compression, Reliability and Energy Targets (SECRET) - which is supported by an award from The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) and led by Howden Chair in Engineering Design and Compressor Technology, Professor Ahmed Kovacevic.

3. Daikin Central Europe Joins Forces with AHT in 16 Countries
Daikin Central Europe and AHT Cooling Systems are joining forces in 16 countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The new strategic business unit focuses on commercial refrigeration, a key step in the company’s ambition to become the top provider in the segment. The new unit combines the product and service range of Daikin and AHT with a view to providing customers in the food retail sector with better service and support. The acquisition of AHT in 2019 brought Daikin closer to its goal of becoming a full-service provider. The new unit embodies the ‘One-Stop-Shop’ concept.

4. CRH 2020 Seeks Innovative Development in Post-Pandemic Era
Under the difficult global situation impacted by COVID-19, China Refrigeration Expo (CRH) was successfully held at Chongqing International Expo Center from August 19 to 21 in 2020.  This was the first time Chongqing hosted the CRH Expo, which gathered nearly 500 companies and organizations from eight countries and the exhibition area covered about 50,000 m2. This year, small to medium-sized companies stood out in particular, looking for business opportunities by displaying their comprehensive new technologies and products.

5. Panasonic to Further Grow Its Business with Its Broad Range and Balanced Products
JARN interviewed Tsutomu Ishihara, director of the Commercial Air-Conditioning Business Unit, Heating and Cooling Solutions Business Division, Panasonic Appliances Company, to mainly hear about its gas heat pump (GHP), air handling units (AHUs), and absorption chiller businesses.
