2. 2019 Overview of the Global R32 AC Market
When reviewing the 2019 global air conditioner market trends, it emerges that the recent shift to mildly flammable (A2L) refrigerant R32 has accentuated and has become more far-reaching. Diversification of R32 air conditioning equipment including air-to-water (ATW) heat pumps and scroll chillers continues to progress. In the fall of 2019, R32 variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems were launched in the European market and have attracted the industry’s attention. The number of the countries where R32 models account for more than half of the split-type room air conditioner (RAC) market is increasing in Asia, Oceania, and Europe. The proportion of R32 models in the entire global split-type RAC market including Japan and China is estimated to have reached over 40% in 2019. Meanwhile, the market environment for commercial-use packaged air conditioners (PACs) is not yet sufficiently ready for a shift to R32 in many countries. Mainly Japan and Europe are promoting a shift to R32 in the PAC market.

3. New Standard Divides RAC Sales Approaches in Online and Offline Stores in China
China’s new room air conditioner (RAC) standard has been enforced since July 1. Accordingly, non-inverter and inverter products in Grade 3, with low energy efficiency and high energy consumption, will be phased out. However, many off-line shops still focus on selling old models that comply with the previous energy efficiency standard. New models that comply with the current standard have become a new selling point for online shops.
