1. Technological Update for Fans, Motors, and Instrumentation
Initially, the inverterization of compressors and fan motors was applied by a small number of air conditioner manufacturers that mastered this technology. These companies designed and produced inverter compressors and fan motors in-house. Therefore, the roll-out of inverters to manufacturers without such complicated and advanced technology took place relatively slowly. However, in the 2000s, due to the tightening of energy conservation regulations in many countries and intensifying energy conservation competition among manufacturers, motor manufacturers and semiconductor manufacturers began to provide inverter drive motors and drive power modules at relatively low prices, achieving progress overnight in the inverterization of motors.

2. Howden to supply World Leading Oil-free Screw Compressor Technology
Howden has been awarded a contract with American based UT-Battelle (Oak Ridge National Laboratory) to supply the DYS Blowout Compressor and the variable frequency drive (VFD) which will be an important part of the Tokamak Cooling Water System (TCWS). Tokamak is a magnetic fusion device that has been designed to demonstrate the feasibility of fusion as a large-scale and carbon-free source of energy.

3. MHI Expands Its Presence around the Globe with Total HVAC&R Solutions

4. Johnson Controls Opens Innovation Center in Singapore
Johnson Controls, a global leader in smart and sustainable buildings, opened its US$ 50 million OpenBlue Innovation Center to create a future-ready built environment for Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region, on September 17, 2020. The net zero energy WELL-certified center is located at the National University of Singapore (NUS) campus, and will be a living laboratory for a new generation of customizable, contact-free applications built on Johnson Controls’ unifying technology suite, OpenBlue.

5. China’s Rotary Compressor Market Trends in RY 2020
The implementation of China’s new energy efficiency standards for air conditioners has accelerated demand for inverter compressors. In refrigeration year 2020 (RY 2020 ending July 2020), the inverter ratio of rotary compressors increased to 53%. However, in the fields of heat pump water heaters (HPWHs), heat pump dryers, freezing and cold storage, the application ratio of inverter rotary compressors is still very low, and the penetration potential is large.
