1. World Chiller Market – 2020 Update
According to JARN, world chiller demand in 2019 approached US$ 8.60 billion, up 2.4% compared with 2018. The major chiller markets are China, the United States, and Europe, accounting for 31.2%, 15.7% and 17% of the world market, respectively. In 2020, affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, many large- scale projects have been postponed or suspended, resulting in a cliff-like market decline. After the pandemic restrictions eased to a certain degree, demand from the pharmaceutical, hospital, and data center sectors rebounded rapidly, and investment increased rapidly, making up for the losses related to the pandemic in the first half of the year.

2. United States Chiller and Air-side Equipment Market - 2019
Overall chiller demand over the past five years increased by 27% on a value basis and reached US$ 1.35 billion in 2019, an increase of 8% over 2018. Demand for AHUs in the U.S. market accounted for about US$ 1.45 billion in 2019. AHUs can be classified into three types: standard, semi-custom made, and custom-made products, and are supplied by more than 20 major and local companies.

3. China Chiller and Air-side Equipment Market - 2019
The overall scale of the Chinese chiller market in 2019 increased slightly compared with 2018. According to the 2019 Annual Report of China’s HVAC&R Industry from China Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Industry Association (CRAA), the total cooling capacity of various types of chillers in China was 64.63 GW in 2019, an increase of 2.3% year on year, and total sales surpassed RMB 27.7 billion (US$ 4.1 billion), an increase of 2.7% year on year. Of air-side equipment, sales of modular (Horizontal) type AHUs in China in 2019 reached RMB 4.05 billion (US$ 604.6 million), an increase of 2.3% year on year. Sales of FCUs reached RMB 2.72 billion (US$ 406 million), a year-on-year increase of 3.4%, with the floor-standing (Vertical) type accounting for RMB 970 million (US$ 144.8 million), a slight decrease year on year.

4. EUROPE Chiller and Air-side Equipment Market - 2019
In 2019, the European chiller market including Turkey, Russia, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) grew by 7%, surpassing €1.30 billion (US$ 1.53 billion). Smaller chillers with capacities of 50 to 350 kW and large chillers with capacities of over 700 kW demonstrated slightly faster growth rates than medium-sized chillers. The FCU and AHU markets performed quite well in Europe in 2019, with 7.3% growth for AHUs, raising the total market value to more than €2.24 billion (US$ 2.64 billion), and 10% growth for FCUs, bringing the total market to a level of €449.3 million (US$ 530.1 million). These increases mainly benefited the EU28 countries.

5. Trane Consistently Searches for More Optimal Refrigerants for Its Chillers
