Data released around July 2020 showed that the long-term increase in air conditioner sales stalled in 2019 and slid backwards marginally. It remains unclear whether that result was an aberration or a start of a trend. While it seems unlikely that we reached peak air conditioner penetration – where the number of installations and retirements are in balance – the reasons remain murky.
