1. Indonesia Is Short of RACs - Japanese Manufacturers Call on Government to Relax Import Restrictions
On August 28, 2020, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade (MOT) tightened the import regulations for room air conditioners (RACs) with capacities of 3 hp and less. In early February 2021, more than five months after the enforcement of these regulations, JARN interviewed several major brands exporting air conditioners to Indonesia and asked about the impact of Indonesia’s RAC import restrictions on the market.

2. Midea HBT to Establish Smart Building Ecosystem
Midea HVAC and Building Technologies Division (Midea HBT) has a full range of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) products. On December 11, 2020, Midea added elevators to its product portfolio by acquiring Winone Elevator. Seizing this opportunity, JARN interviewed Jason Zhao, president of Midea HBT Overseas Company, to learn about how the acquisition of the elevator business strengthened Midea’s intelligent building solutions beyond the existing broad business.

3. ASERCOM Convention 2021 Features Regulations and Standards in Post-pandemic Society
On January 29, 2021, the Association of European Refrigeration Component Manufacturers (ASERCOM) held virtually the ASERCOM Convention 2021, Digital Dialogue. Speakers presented future yardsticks to promote       energy efficiency performance along with achievable regulations to assist the sustainable development of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) industry.

4. World air conditioner market in 2020- AFRICA
JARN estimates that the African room air conditioner (RAC) market in 2020 decreased by 16.4% compared with 2019, reaching 2.55 million units. Africa is an attractive and potentially large air conditioning market that has achieved steady growth in recent years. However, the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 is a huge detriment to this young market.

5. Musings on HVAC&R- Accessories/Parts and Installation Work Influence the Efficiency of Air Conditioning
Newly released air conditioning products attract the attention of many people and are featured in many articles and advertisements in the media. On the other hand, accessories and parts related to air conditioning systems do not receive much attention. An air conditioning system is completed by installing the air conditioning unit using accessories and parts, therefore, they are necessary and very important for the system.
