1. Compressors 2021 Streamed Online by IIR for the First Time
Compressors 2021, the 10th event in this renowned series of conferences on compressors and coolants, staged in Bratislava, Slovakia, was streamed online     for the first time on January 13, 2021. The conference dealt       with compressors, compressor and refrigeration technologies, inspection and diagnostics, and compressor coolants and oils. The proceedings are available via the IIR’s website: www.iifiir.org.

2. Carrier China Wins $17 million Exclusive Equipment Contract
 Carrier China has signed a contract worth $17 million with China Eastern Airlines Investment (CES Investment) to provide XCT7 variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems for commercial offices and residential projects throughout China. The contract is one of the largest single VRF contracts that Carrier has ever signed, representing a new milestone for Carrier China’s Light Commercial business.

3. AHRI Staff Reviews Seasonal Efficiency Regulations Plan in MEN
The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) Middle East and North Africa (MENA) team held a Regional Industry Group meeting on January 11 to discuss upcoming revisions to SASO Standard 2663 that includes SEER, which is expected to be released by the end of this year.

4. HFC Tax Postponed in France
French refrigeration and air conditioning federations met in June 2020 to discuss the tax on HFC refrigerants envisaged by the French government, initially scheduled to enter into force on January 1, 2021. The HVAC&R sector considered that the future tax had become unnecessary and should not be implemented. Moreover, the French Court of Auditors and the Inspectorate-General of Finance have recommended that taxes generating low revenues for the government should not be applied, and the draft HFC tax falls into this category. This factor, along with negative reactions from the HVAC&R industry, led to the postponement of the HFC tax prior to its application.

5. China’s Air Purifier Export Orders Increase by 7.8 Times
According to data from Alibaba, a Chinese e-commerce platform giant, China’s air purifier exports achieved year on year growth, both on value and volume basis, for eight consecutive months, from April to November 2020. During the period, air purifiers increased their export orders by 7.8 times and gross merchandise value by 9.3 times year on year, becoming a star export product. According to data from China Customs, in 2019, China’s export value of residential air purifiers approached US$ 800 million, an increase of 15.1% year on year.
