1. U.S. Rejoins the Paris Agreement
This January, almost immediately after Joseph Biden was inaugurated as the 46th U.S. president, he signed an executive order to rejoin the international Paris Agreement on climate change that the previous Trump administration had withdrawn from. The United States, which six years ago had taken a leadership role in brokering the agreement to combat climate change, was now rejoining it. With this move, expectations for worldwide progress   on measures to cut greenhouse gas emissions are rising.

2. Air Purification Technology - UV-C LED Attracts Attention
According to Fuji Keizai, the global UV-C light source market for sterilization of airborne and adhered viruses in 2020 is estimated at ¥22.6 billion (US$ 214 million). This is 7.5 times the market size of ¥3 billion (US$ 28.5 million) in 2019, when there was limited demand for UV-C used for airborne and adhered virus sterilization. Mercury lamps have been the mainstream light source for UV-C. However, since mercury has an adverse effect on the human body and the environment, a shift to light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that efficiently generate UV-C without using mercury is currently progressing.

3. LU-VE Group Obtains First Eurovent Certification for CO2 Products
At the end of 2020, LU-VE Group was amongst the very first companies to obtain Eurovent certification (No. 00.10.214) for CO2 unit coolers (thermal capacity, sound level and energy consumption), marketed under the brands LU-VE Exchangers and AIA LU-VE.

4. The Government Provides Subsidies for Clean Heating in Northern Regions
The Chinese Ministry of Finance issued a notice of  the early release of budgeted funds for air pollution prevention in 2021. The notice clarifies the amount  of pilot subsidies for winter clean heating in the targeted pilot cities in northern China in 2021, with a total value of RMB 7.34 billion (US$ 1.14 billion).

5. Danfoss to Build Global HVAC&R R&D and Testing Center in China
On January 6, 2021, Danfoss Group announced that it would invest in the construction of the Danfoss Global HVAC&R R&D and Testing Center in Wuqing District, Tianjin, China. The new center will be completed in 2022, and will be dedicated to the research and development (R&D) and   testing of inverter technology for air conditioning and refrigeration (AC&R) compressors, heat pump applications, and environmentally friendly refrigerant alternatives.
