1. Background and Trends in Heating Electrification
Replacing the energy source for heating from fossil fuels with electricity is called electrification rather than simply expressing it as heat pumping. People who already understand the benefits of using heat pump heating will be familiar with heat pumping, but those who have been heating only with fossil fuels will not understand what a heat pump is. Therefore, ‘electrification’ implies a shift from fossil fuels to electricity in the case of heating using heat pumps, following the example in which vehicles that use gasoline, etc. are shifting to electricity-driven vehicles.

2. Daikin Continues to Invest in Its German Heat Pump Factory
The new production line will enable Daikin to produce wall-mounted type indoor heat pump units used in several product ranges such as Daikin Altherma 3. Around 20,000 units will be produced by the end of 2021, and Daikin expects to expand further in the coming years. To make this possible, the Daikin Manufacturing Germany (DMGG) factory has already increased the number of employees by 37% since October 2020. By increasing its production capacity in Germany, Daikin aims to strengthen its footprint in Europe’s leading manufacturing hub for heat pumps.

5. JIS Set Up for Low-velocity Radiant Air Supply Units
On March 22, 2021, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced that it had enacted the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) for low-velocity radiant heat and cool air supply units. Radiant heat and cool air supply systems have advantages in terms of energy savings as they are characterized by providing more comfort to users with less airflow compared with other heating and cooling equipment, in particular, by supplying cool wind. Low-velocity radiant heating and cooling air supply units working as air outlets of the systems blow cool and hot air from a panel face installed on unit surfaces, making use of air supplied by air conditioners, and also radiate cold and heat energy from the panel.
