1. Smart ACs Evolving by Linking IoT Functions and AI Technology
A feature of recent smart air conditioners is that new added value is being pursued by linking IoT functions and AI technology. A typical smart air conditioner sends information on the ever-changing thermal environment, such as temperature, humidity, human sense, and solar radiation, collected by sensors set up in the space to be air conditioned, to the cloud. Then the air conditioner learns big data consisting of past driving and other information in the cloud as well as forecast information sent from weather forecasting companies. As such, the IoT function determines the required control of ever-changing temperature, humidity, air volume, wind direction, etc. and feeds it back to the air conditioner to be operated.

2. Emerson Marks 100 Years of AC&R Innovation with Copeland Technology
Emerson is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its Copeland brand this year. Copeland is a name that has become synonymous with leadership in the design and manufacture of energy efficient, reliable compressors to power AC&R systems that are enhancing and protecting environments where people live and work.  Reinforcing its commitment to continue Copeland’s innovation and intense focus on solving critical customer problems, Emerson completed a multimillion-dollar expansion of its Copeland engineering facility in Sidney, Ohio, the United States. This investment created 110,000 ft2 (10,219 m2) of new engineering lab space for product research, development and testing of the next generation of compressors, electronics and other critical technologies for the global HVAC&R industry.

3. ENGIE Refrigeration Quantum Water Sets a New Standard
The Quantum Water offers groundbreaking digital features. With the new ‘smart control’, a smart user interface (web-based visualization) replaces the touch panel that was previously integrated in a fixed position on the machine, allowing the chiller to be controlled using a tablet and a Wi-Fi connection, for example. This improves ease of use for operating companies while also simplifying maintenance and servicing by ENGIE experts. Furthermore, customers can now choose between four different refrigerants - R515B, R134a, R513A and R1234ze - and all machines require less refrigerant than the predecessor series.

5. AC Cost Reductions from Replacing Copper with Aluminum
A seminar on solutions for replacing copper with aluminum within the air conditioning industry was organized by the China Household Electrical Appliances Research Institute (CHEARI). According to industry insiders, rising copper prices have forced the air conditioning industry to look for new solutions, and the possibility of replacing copper with aluminum is showing up.  From a professional perspective, such a replacement could effectively offset rising costs, playing a positive role in the optimizing and stabilizing the industry and supply chains, to effectively foster benign development and an entire structure upgrade of the industry, and enhance the competitiveness of made-in-China air conditioners to benefit more consumers.
