1. Technical Trends - Fan Motors
The rapid progress in air conditioner energy savings, which started in the 1990s, largely relied on the inverterization of compressors and fan motors. Inverterized motors are called brushless direct current (BLDC) motors and electronically commutated (EC) motors. In the HVAC segment, EC motors, which are often used for air blowing, are increasingly adopted, not only in high-end models but also in standard models, and they are expected to be rolled out even in lower-end models in the future.

2. The Big 5 in Dubai Hosts over 36,000 Global Professionals
This year’s Big 5 welcomed 36,386 business professionals such as real estate developers, architects, contractors, engineers, consultants, manufacturers, and distributors. Targeting such professional visitors, over 1,200 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, including 20 country pavilions, promoted their latest products and services.

3. Johnson Controls-Hitachi Expands Distributor Network in North America
On September 15, 2021, Johnson Controls-Hitachi announced the addition of five regional companies to its roster of North American distributors for Hitachi variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems and SmartFlex minisplit systems. The new distributors strengthen the North American distribution footprint for these popular Johnson Controls-Hitachi products.

5. China’s Air Conditioner Market Segmented
According to All View Cloud (AVC) monitoring data, the air conditioner industry in China saw a retail volume of 50.35 million units in refrigeration year 2021 (RY, end of August 2021), falling by 5.8% year on year. High energy efficiency and energy saving products have dominated the market. Currently, China has seen air conditioner ownership reach 540 million units, and the domestic retail market saw an annual sales volume of over 50 million units, most of which were for upgrades.
