1. Turkey — Keystone of Global AC Industry
Recently, contrasting phenomena have occurred on the north and south sides of the Black Sea. Ukraine on the north side has been hit by a devastating war, while Turkey on the south side has been experiencing an investment boom. In the Turkish air conditioning market, Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric, the two strong players in the global air conditioning industry, announced at the end of May that they will make further investments in order to expand their local production.

2. Washington State Raises Building Energy Efficiency Requirements
On April 22, 2022, the Washington State Building Code Council voted to update the state’s commercial building energy code, with the updates set to go into force July 1, 2023. Under the new rules, most new commercial and multi-family residential buildings with four or more floors will be required to install electric heat pumps for space and water heating.

3. Gas Price Hikes Differ across Europe
Gas prices have risen in almost all European countries, but to a varying extent. Eurostat data show that Bulgarian households have experienced the steepest increase in gas prices, with a staggering 103.2% increase in the second half of 2021 compared with the same semester of the previous year.

5. Shanghai Lockdown Released, But Impact on Supply Chain Ongoing
In the Japanese air conditioning industry, as of May, some models of split-type room air conditioners (RACs) were already out of stock at mass retailers. With the full-scale RAC sales season approaching in Japan, some media are calling for early testing operation of existing RACs at home and early purchase of new RACs.
