1. Danfoss to Acquire Bock to Strengthen Natural Refrigerant Technology
Danfoss announced on October 10, 2022, its intent to acquire compressor manufacturer Bock, headquartered in Frickenhausen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, from Nord Holding, which is one of the leading private equity asset management companies in Germany. The acquisition procedures are expected to close early next spring.

2. Panasonic Opens a Training Facility in Malaysia
On Sep 15, 2022, Panasonic’s Asia Engineering Centre (AEC) opened its new training facility in Selangor, Malaysia, with the concept of ‘See, Hear, and Touch’.  AEC was established in April 2021 under the umbrella of Panasonic Appliances Air-Conditioning Malaysia (PAPAMY), aiming to raise the level of the technological capabilities of Panasonic’s air quality and air conditioning business in the Asia-Oceania region.

3. Haier Accelerates Global Localization of AC Business
Haier, a leading air conditioner manufacturer in China, has been exploring overseas markets with its own brands and performed strongly in the first half of 2022. In this context, JARN interviewed Zhang Tieyan, director of Haier Air Conditioning Overseas Market, to learn about the company’s business performances in overseas markets.

4. U.S. Senate Votes to Ratify the Kigali Amendment
On September 21, 2022, the U.S. Senate voted to ratify the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, which aims to sharply phase down the global production and use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), commonly used in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) applications. According to a press release from AHRI, it issued a letter to Senate leaders urging ratification of the Kigali Amendment, noting that ratification‘will secure a position of strength for American companies in a highly competitive global market for next-generation refrigerant technologies by creating new U.S. manufacturing jobs and stimulating further investment in the U.S. economy.’

5. Refrigerated Storage Methods Used for Fruit and Vegetables
When refrigerating or freezing fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, etc., the cooling speed and method will affect their taste and quality retention period. Therefore, a lot of research and development has been conducted with a view to developing better refrigerating and freezing methods. The application range of refrigeration and freezing is not limited to fruit, vegetables, and other foods and flowers, but has expanded to the preservation of blood, vaccines, medicines, organs, etc. in the medical field, as well as the cooling of equipment such as electronic devices and linear motors. In order to create refrigeration and freezing methods for a wider range of products, issue-solving activities that enter new target fields and find new methods will be important.
