1. World VRF Market – 2022
JARN’s database shows that in 2022, the global variable refrigerant flow (VRF) market remained at a level similar to that in 2021, amounting to some 1.9 million units based on the number of outdoor units. This occurred mainly because of the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

2. EUROPE
Beginning in the spring of 2022, renowned brands have experienced shortages of certain models due to the tight supply of semiconductor related products that has affected the production of VRFs. Due to these shortages, the VRF market was very sluggish in the first half of the year. Early in the winter, the supply of semiconductors eased, and mini-VRF and multi-split models rebounded, but VRF sales still did not return to the previous year’s level. As a result, total demand for VRFs in 2022 in Europe increased by 4.2%, reached 181,000 units.

3. INDIA
The Indian VRF system market clocked substantial growth in 2022 over 2021. The estimated market
scale in 2022 was 65,000 outdoor units – indicating growth of 39.1% over 2021. This includes side-discharge systems with capacities of up to 12 hp (including mini-VRFs with capacities of up to 6 hp), as well as top-discharge systems with capacities larger than 12 hp.

4. CHINA
JARN estimates that the Chinese VRF market scale approached 1 million units in 2022, indicating a year-on-year decrease of about 5.3%.In the first half of the year, East China, a main VRF production base and market that include Shanghai, was affected by repeated pandemic waves and VRF-related factories were shut down, and logistics ground to a halt, all of which adversely affected VRF sales. In the second half of the year, sales growth in other areas began to slow down, especially in the fourth quarter which suffered a sharp decline, mainly due to a decline in the real estate market, private investments, engineering projects, etc.
