1. Copeland Reborn as a New Standalone Business after Blackstone’s US$ 14 Billion Acquisition
On May 31, 2023, Emerson announced jointly with Blackstone that private equity funds managed by Blackstone have completed the previously announced acquisition of a majority stake in Emerson’s Climate Technologies business in a transaction valuing the business at US$ 14.0 billion. As a result, the largest class acquisition in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) industry was completed.

3. Daikin India Becomes Billion-dollar Company
Daikin India is now the second company operating in the cooling space in India to cross the US$ 1 billion-milestone after the Tata group company Voltas, which has reported a total income of US$ 1.18 billion for FY 2022–2023. Daikin India expects to become a US$ 2 billion company in the next three years, said Chairman and MD Kanwaljeet Jawa.

4. Ziehl-Abegg Accelerates Its Growth Strategy in North America
At AHR Expo held in the United States in February this year, JARN visited Ziehl-Abegg’s booth and had an opportunity to interview Dr. Marc Wucherer, who took up his new position as chief executive officer (CEO) of the company in December 2022. He talked about Ziehl-Abegg’s global strategy, focusing on the U.S. and European markets.

5. Musings on HVAC&R - Heat Pumps and Heat Storage
Modern society consumes a large amount of energy, and the accompanying large amount of waste heat is causing global warming. As a countermeasure, it is essential to develop a system that utilizes the waste heat energy generated, along with improving the energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption. Heat pumps and heat storage are technologies that realize these objectives, and further R&D is expected.
