1. World ATW Heat Pump Market - OVERVIEW
According to JARN database, the global ATW market in 2022 increased by 21.9% year on year, reaching 4.95 million units. Sales in 2022 were set to hit record levels in response to the global energy crisis, especially in Europe where some countries saw sales double in the first half of 2022 compared with the same period of 2021.

2. EUROPE
JARN estimates that the ATW heat pump market in Europe increased by 55.5% year on year in 2022, reaching 1.70 million units. There are many countries in Europe, and the heating culture differs from one country to another. The scope of subsidies in various countries has caused a significant difference in market growth rates. However, almost every European country has seen double-digit growth in demand, year after year.

3. JAPAN
Among residential ATW HPWHs, Eco Cute, which plays a central role in Japan, is a high-efficiency water heater that adopts CO2 and uses heat pump technology to produce hot water. In 2022, the Japanese Eco Cute market flourished. According to the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA), the market reached 695,428 in 2022, showing strong 18.7% growth compared with 2021.

4. CHINA
According to JARN’s estimates, the Chinese ATW heat pump market in 2022 grew by about 6.0% year on year to about 2.32 million units. The market lost its former rapid growth momentum, mainly affected by the interruption of production and logistics in some areas due to the nationwide strict control measures against the pandemic in the first and fourth quarters. Imported parts and components were also in short supply. In addition, ‘Coal-to-Electricity’ heating conversion policy, which was formerly a key driver for ATW heat pumps, was gradually dwindling.

5. UNITED STATES
In 2022, the U.S. market scale of ATW cylinder-integrated heat pump models was 137,000 units. Monobloc or split-type ATW heat pumps are not very common in the U.S. market. The annual sales volume is large for the residential water heater market, reaching 8 to 10 million units, while the share of ATW heat pumps is small in the U.S. market.
