Pathways to prevent the dumping of inefficient air conditioners in Southeast Asia

A new report by CLASP and IGSD finds a staggering 74% of room air conditioner (RAC) sales in Southeast Asia (6.2 million units) are low efficiency models. The analysis focused on six Southeast Asian countries—Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam— over 80% of the region’s RAC market. Many of these low-efficiency units use high-GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerants, exacerbating their negative climate impacts.
