1. Provisional Agreement Reached on Revised F-gas Regulation
On October 5, 2023, the European Council and Parliament negotiators reached a provisional political agreement on phasing down substances that cause global warming and deplete the ozone layer. This provisional agreement finalizes negotiations on fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) and confirms an informal agreement reached in June on ozone-depleting substances (ODSs).

2. Building AC Industry to Help California’s Heat Pump Installation Goal
On October 10, 10 of the world’s largest manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers of building heating and cooling equipment signed an agreement committing to actions aimed at achieving California’s goal to have six million electric heat pumps installed by 2030. The announcement took place at a two-day summit hosted by the California Energy Commission (CEC) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

3. City, University of London Hosts International Conference on Compressors
City, University of London hosted the 13th International Conference on Compressors and their Systems on September 11 to 13, 2023. With ‘Compressors and Expanders in Future Energy Systems’ as theme, the main conference consisted of five keynote addresses, three panels, 72 technical papers, four industry presentations, with 234 delegates from 29 countries. The Short Course and Forum was attended by 55 delegates with 16 presentations made.

4. Minister of Industry of Indonesia Visits Sharp’s Indonesian AC Factory
Sharp Electronics Indonesian air conditioner factory received a visit from Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, the minister of Industry of Indonesia, in early September. Sharp’s air conditioner factory is its fourth following its refrigerator, washing machine, and television factories, and occupies an area of 3.5 hectares. It has a production capacity of up to 1.2 million units per year and a workforce of up to 1,000 employees.

5. Frascold Opens Compressor Assembly Factory in Taizhou, China
On September 26, Frascold, a global renowned compressor manufacturer headquartered in Italy, held an opening ceremony for its Taizhou Factory located in the Taizhou Integrated Free Trade Zone, Jiangsu Province, China. More than 200 attendees from Italy and China gathered at the ceremony, including Giuseppe Galli, chairman, and Livio Calabrese, sales director of Frascold Italy.
