1. World Chiller and Air-side Equipment Market 2022 - INDIA
The Indian market scale of chillers in 2022-2023 is estimated to be around 6,030 chillers (1,451,000 tons), recording growth of about 6% compared with 2021. In terms of value, the market scale was INR 24.6 billion (about US$ 319.8 million). The user sectors mainly responsible for the growth in the chiller market were data centers, lithiumion battery projects, electronic components manufacturing, and healthcare.

2. SOUTHEAST ASIA
According to JARN’s database, the total chiller market in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines, recovered strongly in 2022, reaching US$ 326.8 million, a 15.3% increase compared with 2021. Demand for large chiller equipment for data centers is booming. Southeast Asia has attracted unprecedented attention as the new global data center hub.

3. MIDDLE EAST
JARN estimates that demand for chillers and air-side systems in the Middle East reached US$ 591.4 million and US$ 409.6 million respectively in 2022, indicating increases of 2.9 and 3.4% compared with 2021. The three big markets in the region, Saudi Arabia and UAE, have seen slight growth but Iran showed a slight decrease. The prominent manufacturers in the Middle East market are US-based brands such as Carrier, Trane, and JCI YORK, which have a strong presence as multinational corporations.

4. LATIN AMERICA
In 2022, demand for chillers in Latin America increased by 4.4%, up to an estimated market value of US$ 235.0 million. Regarding sales value, chillers accounted for almost 60%, and air-side products accounted for around 40%. Among them, Mexico and Brazil led the growth, followed by Argentina.

5. PRODUCTS & TECHNOLOGY TRENDS- Natural Refrigerant Chillers / Heat Pumps
Currently, the natural refrigerants that can be used for HVAC equipment are ammonia (R717), propane (R290), water (R717), and carbon dioxide/CO2 (R744), and these refrigerants are already being used in applications that suit their respective characteristics.
However, there are various technical issues when natural refrigerants are used for chillers and commercial heat pumps.  Various technological developments have been carried out so far to address these issues regarding the respective properties of natural refrigerants. The details will be discussed in detail in the special issue's chapter on products and technology trends.
