2. Nine States in the U.S. Climate Alliance Pledge to Boost Heat Pump Uptake
On February 7, nine states including New York and California signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that sets the target of having heat pumps account for 65% of residential heating, cooling, and water heating sales by 2030, and 90% by 2040. The nine states are all part of the U.S. Climate Alliance, a coalition of governors from 25 states that has pledged to quadruple heat pump installations by 2030.

3. 2023 RAC Export Volume in China Rises by 4.5% Year on Year
According to customs statistics, December 2023 saw the room air conditioner (RAC) export volume reach 3.63 million units, rising by 14.9% year on year. The total export value came to RMB 3.548 billion (about US$ 493.0 million), increasing by 6.1% year on year. From January to December, RACs have seen a total export volume increase to 48 million units, growing by 4.5% year on year; and the accumulated export value has exceeded RMB 51.793 billion (about US$ 7.20 billion), increasing by 2.6% year on year.March Regular page 35

4. Haier Enters the Japanese RAC Market
On February 14, 2024, Haier Japan Sales held a new product launch event. The company has entered the room air conditioner (RAC) market in Japan, and will be selling the ‘huu’ CS series, an RAC that is kind to people and lifestyles, with a focus on cleanliness, energy savings, and comfort. The company announced that the huu CS series will be sold at electronics retail stores nationwide, DIY stores, general merchandise stores, and online etc. from April 1.

5. Is Human Happiness the Ultimate Goal of Air Conditioning?
What is the ultimate goal of air conditioning, which has progressed from being comfortable to being health-oriented? Comfort and health may be the ultimate goal of air conditioning. However, there may be people who are dissatisfied with current products, which claim to offer comfortable and healthy air conditioning. One of the goals of future air conditioners is to address this dissatisfaction. What kind of air conditioning is ideal? Some time ago, the author discussed air conditioning with a friend who specializes in air conditioning. Then we both agreed that the ultimate goal of air conditioning may be human happiness. What kind of air conditioning makes people feel happy? Under what circumstances do people feel happy?
