1. Daikin to Change Its Representative Directors

On May 9, 2024, Daikin held a press conference to announce drastic changes in its representative directors during its 100th anniversary year.  According to the announcement, Noriyuki Inoue will step down as chairman of the Board, and will remain in the company in an honorary position. Mr. Inoue has led Daikin’s management for 30 years since 1994 when he became president and representative director of the company.
Masanori Togawa, current representative director, president, and chief executive officer (CEO), and member of the board with an assignment post of chairman of Internal Control Committee, will become representative director, chairman of the Board, and CEO. Naofumi Takenaka, current senior executive officer in charge of Human Resources: General Affairs, will become Daikin’s representative director, president and chief operating officer (COO), and member of the board in addition to an assigned post of chairman of the Internal Control Committee.

2. Carrier Announces Lineups Compatible with Lower-GWP Refrigerants
Carrier recently announced the launch of residential and commercial lineups available with refrigerants that have a lower GWP than conventional refrigerants. Specifically, Carrier’s latest single-stage heat pump for residential and light commercial applications will use R454B, which Carrier markets as Puron Advance, to replace R410A. R454B has a GWP of 466, which is under the 700 GWP limit on refrigerants that will be imposed in 2025 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

3. France Plans to Produce One Million Heat Pumps per Year
In the middle of April, Bruno Le Maire, minister of Economics, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, and Roland Lescure, minister delegate for Industry and Energy, visited the production site of Intuis, a French heat pump manufacturer, and unveiled an action plan designed to achieve the production of one million heat pumps in France per year by 2027, a target previously set by French President Emmanuel Macron several months ago.

4. LG Ties in with AC Compressor Production with Shaker in Saudi Arabia
LG Electronics (LG) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Al Hassan Ghazi Ibrahim Shaker (Shaker Group), Saudi Arabia’s leading importer, manufacturer, and distributor of air conditioners and home appliances, and the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia (MISA) to manufacture air conditioning compressors in Saudi Arabia.

5. Canton Fair Highlights China’s Advanced Manufacturing
The first phase of the 135th Canton Fair, China Import and Export Fair, was held on April 15 to 19. The Canton Fair Complex in Guangzhou City attracted nearly 10,900 exhibitors and 125,440 overseas buyers from more than 210 countries and regions. Chinese heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) brands also promoted their high-quality, smart, and green solutions that were created using advanced manufacturing for overseas buyers.
