To fully comply with the Montreal Protocol and Kigali Amendment requirements, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) manufacturers and government bodies must address not only the proper choice of refrigerant but also adequate training and education of technicians and users. This will necessitate significant modifications to codes and standards. The ongoing global refrigerant transition aims to protect the stratospheric ozone layer and address climate change issues, which are especially challenging for the GCC due to its high ambient temperatures. The Kigali Amendment recognizes this by designating GCC states as Group 2 within the Article 5 category.
